Endstation Theatre’s 2010 Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival lineup was partly inspired by an old barn that sits on the campus of Sweet Briar College.

Artistic director and co-founder Geoff Kershner says they did what they always do when it comes time to choose plays for the festival: “We pick a location, and then decide on a show that would work well with it.”

When two of Brian Dolenti’s friends died within a week of each other during the spring of 2008, he and a group of their surviving friends wanted to do something.

“We (began) thinking about (how) to kind of make some good out of a bad situation,” says Dolenti, a 2005 E.C. Glass High School graduate.

The group teamed up to create the Ad Astra Music Festival, now in its second year and scheduled for this weekend at the Sedalia Center in Big Island.
