Read more...Until recently, Lynchburg native Leah Meadows didn’t know much about Vietnam, other than what she’d seen in the movies and in popular culture.
“The only images I had of it were from ‘Forrest Gump,’” she says, referring to the 1994 film, in which the titular character serves in the Vietnam War.
“It wasn’t our war,” says Meadows, 23 and an E.C. Glass graduate. “Our generation has another war.”
Read more...The tooth appeared on Fort Avenue, less than 24 hours after news of Michael Jackson’s death broke.
It wasn’t a real tooth. It was a paper cut-out, shaped like a human molar, glued to the side of a gray utility box. The tooth bore the stenciled visage of Michael Jackson, with a yellow halo framing his face, and the words “Sad” in cursive.
News of the tooth circulated fast on the Facebook group “Teeth of Lynchburg.” At 1:15 a.m. June 26, someone wrote, “Michael Jackson tooth is up.” By June 27, a picture was posted, and the comments ensued.
Since April, more than a dozen teeth have been spotted in the city and embraced as street art by a growing number of local followers who use Facebook to share information about the teeth.

Read more...For years, the wall outside Lynchburg City Council chambers was drab and forgettable. With its stark white paint and glass display cases, it was an anonymous backdrop to the hustle and bustle of City Hall.
Now, thanks to the vision of Lynchburg artist Michael Twery, the wall is covered with a mural, “Everyday People,” which features 40 scenes of Lynchburgers going about their daily lives.
