Ultimatum Delivers Adrenaline Packed Thrill Ride
By David Benoit on Aug. 10, 2007
With all the big movies that have debuted over the course of this summer, the one I was looking forward to the most was “The Bourne Ultimatum”. This franchise has been a blast to watch and the latest installment is no exception.
“The Bourne Identity” introduced us to Jason Bourne, an amnesiac assassin trying to piece together his past. “The Bourne Supremacy” continues Jason’s quest for answers and puts him on the hunt of his girlfriend’s killer. “The Bourne Ultimatum” really ups the ante, offering Jason the chance to find out who he is and how he was created. “Ultimatum” begins before the final scene of “Supremacy” and that scene actually plays a role in this movie (clue: there’s more to the conversation than just Jason finding out about his past).
In terms of action, “Ultimatum” certainly met my expectations. The long chase scene over the rooftops in Tangier was probably my favorite of the series. It was definitely the most suspenseful. It felt like there were more car chases in this one, which really would go to show they pulled out all the stops on this installment.
Paul Greengrass, who also directed “Supremacy”, really understands the chaos of this character’s world and it shows in his style. While many complain about the shakiness of the shots, I think it adds the element that makes you feel you are right in the middle of the action.
Overall, I was not let down by “Ultimatum” and feel that this was a great wrap-up to the trilogy. While Robert Ludlum only wrote three Bourne novels before his death, two more books have been penned after his death. At this point in time, it’s unclear if these will be made, but I would be willing to give another movie a try if they decided to go ahead with them.
