Think pink at LC exhibit

By Susan Pugh on Jan. 10, 2008

From staff reports

The 1960s hip cat, the Pink Panther, will be at Lynchburg College’s Daura Gallery.

A collection of 44 original animation cells with accompanying drawings of the character will be on display beginning Jan. 14. The exhibition, “Think Pink! The Animation Art of the Pink Panther,” runs through Feb. 29.

Friz Freleng created the cartoon character for the opening sequence of the 1963 Blake Edwards movie, “The Pink Panther,” with Peter Sellers in the lead role and music by Henry Mancini. The cartoon panther’s success led to NBC cartoon shorts and a series.

An opening reception has been scheduled for 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16. Then on Friday, Feb. 1, (8 to 11 p.m.), the gallery will host a dance to tunes from the ’60s, “Twist the Night Away.”

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m. on select Saturdays.
