Astraios, a national network of musicians who promote the interaction between musicians and audience members, will be giving a series of concerts this weekend to explore the healing power of music and raise money for the Centra Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center.
“Music and Healing: The Garden of Joys and Sorrows,” an interactive presentation and concert, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in Lynchburg College’s Snidow Chapel; 7 p.m. Saturday in Randolph College’s Houston Memorial Chapel; and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pearson Cancer Center.
The concerts will focus on music as a healing agent, as well as its emotional impact on both listeners and performers. Discussions of the physical and psychological effects of music will lead into interactive activities, and the audience will be invited to join in a performance of Terry Riley’s “In C.”
