On the hunt: Searching for treasure in the Burg’s downtown
By Susan Pugh on Aug. 20, 2008
In years past, The Burg’s Treasure Hunt has challenged folks to get out there and hunt for objects, places and things in Peaks View Park, Miller Park and other parts of town.
This year the fifth annual Treasure Hunt goes downtown and offers a specific challenge: name the building based on photographs of its architectural features.
The area in play lies between Commerce Street and Court Street. It’s a part of town rich in some of the city’s neatest-looking buildings - and the city has a plethora of them, from Neo-Classical to Art Deco - many of which are getting an extreme makeover for the 21st century.
In the past, we’ve offered clues. This year, you’re on your own.
To enter the contest, pick up a copy of the Burg. Then, all you need to do is to give the address and/or name of the building that corresponds to a numbered photograph. Ballots may be mailed, faxed or dropped off at the newspaper office.
You can also e-mail your entry. Just make a list in the body of the e-mail and include your name, address and phone number. Submissions can be sent to
Ballots are due by Sept. 3. We’ll pick a winner at random and announce it in our Sept. 10 edition. The winner gets a $50 gift certificate to Kroger. Good luck.
