New Spoon album stays experimental

By Jon Busdeker on Jul. 19, 2007

Spoon began in 1994 with lead vocalist and guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. They chose the band’s name as a tribute to the band Can, whose only hit song was “Spoon.”
After four years, Spoon signed to Elektra Records, but was dropped shortly after the release of its first album. Eventually the band signed with Merge Records and went on to find commercial success with “Girls Can Tell” and “Kill the Moonlight.”
Spoon began appearing on the late-night talk show circuit and, after having substanstial underground success, finally reached the status of mainstream.
Spoon’s most recent album is “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga” and was released July 10. It is the band’s sixth record with various versions being released on iTunes and a limited edition copy with a bonus disc.
There are 10 tracks total and all are well over three minutes in length. The bonus tracks include “Deep Clean” and the bonus disc includes 12 new songs which are mostly instrumental, but a few demos made it on to the bonus disc as well.
As an interesting aside, the track “Don’t You Evah” is a cover of an unreleased song by The Natural History.
Spoon continues to experiment and stay just on the periphery of the mainstream. Fans of old Spoon material will love this album just as much.
Stand out tracks include “Don’t Make Me a Target,” “Rhthm and Soul” and “Black Like Me.”

how on earth do you call spoon expermental. it is just spoon, good but not expermental nothing is really that strongly different to call it such.

oh, and you hardly even talk about the album. Nothing new as that is what is common on the reviews on the burg. They are never that great.
