New album shows band’s confidence
By Jon Busdeker on Jun. 07, 2007
Maroon 5 is a hard-working band and although the group just won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 2005, the band members have been together since 1997.
Maroon 5’s debut album, “Songs About Jane,” has received numerous accolades including four Top 40 singles in the United States alone. Best known for its mixture of soul and rock, Maroon 5 has been working diligently on a new record, “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long.” The first single, “Makes Me Wonder,” has already reached No. 1.
The production on this album really makes it shine. The band reveals its soul and motown influences yet somehow manages to create a solid dance record.
Perhaps lead singer and songwriter Adam Levine has been influenced by his recent collaborations with Kanye West and Alicia Keys.
There are many songs from this album that could be released as singles such as “Little of Your Time” (which may actually be the next single), “Won’t Go Home Without You,” “Back at your Door” and “Can’t Stop.”
The 12 new songs on this release are full of energy and show that Levine and company have a new-found confidence in their lyrical ability.
For all of the genres that Maroon 5 has been placed into there is no doubt that it is a pop band and this is a pop record. While the band can get a bit funky, it mostly sticks with what works.
This record will undoubtedly fare well all summer long, making Maroon 5 a staple of 2007.
