Music notes: Police swan song?

The Police say this is it. Or it will be in August when the band plays what it’s calling its last-ever show in New York City? The date and venue haven’t been announced, but the concert will benefit the production of arts programming for public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW New York.

Prince’s 21-night stand at London’s O2 Arena last year will be commemorated in a book that will contain backstage and onstage photos, and a CD.

The Jonas Brothers will try to break Hannah Montana’s $65 million gross from her recent 3-D movie with their own 3-D concert film. Due next year, the film will feature footage from the band’s upcoming summer tour and behind-the-scenes tidbits

Sweet, the campy glam rock band responsible for “Ballroom Blitz” and “Fox on the Run,” among other guilty pleasures, will launch a tour in June. Check out http://www.thesweetband.com for dates.

Album news
Halfway Pleased,” a solo album from Curt Smith of Tears for Fears, finally sees daylight May 20.

Trey Anastasio releases the live album “Original Boardwalk Style” on June 10. The disc was recorded Dec. 30-31, 2006, at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, N.J.

Judas Priest unleashes the double-disc concept album “Nostradamus” on June 17.

The Offspring releases “Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace” on June 17. The band is offering a link to a free MP3 download of the album’s first single, “Hammerhead,” at http://www.offspring.com.

The Hold Steady will drop “Stay Positive” on July 15. Contributors include Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood.

The Cure’s long-awaited latest will be out Sept. 13. The first single, “The Only One,” is out May 13.
