Music notes: DMB defends planet

Rock the Earth has bestowed one of its 2008 Planet Defender Awards on the Dave Matthews Band. The group was cited for its “environmental ethic through their tour practices and by collaborating with a host of environmental organizations.”
Fans of Chris Bopst’s defunct radio show, which aired on WCLM (1450 AM) for many years, can now get a taste of his eclectic musical choices on a weekly podcast. Bopst will post a new one-hour episode every Monday at http://www.rvanews.com.
Alanis Morissette is promoting her upcoming “Flavors of Entanglement” album on VH1’s new lyrics site, http://www.lyrics.vh1.com. She plans to have an acappella version of her smash “You Oughta Know” and a performance of her new single, “Underneath,” up soon. “Entanglement” is due June 10.
John Mayer’s “Where the Light Is” CD/DVD arrives July 1. The set was recorded in December at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

On June 17, Motley Crue unleashes “Saints of Los Angeles,” its first studio album since 2000’s “New Tattoo.”
Also June 17: “Greatest Hits Volume 2” CD/DVD comes from the Goo Goo Dolls, and Sister Hazel, who plays Toad’s Place May 23, releases a live acoustic album, “Before the Amplifiers, Live Acoustic.”
Weezer’s next outing, dubbed the “Red” album, will have 10 songs, with a deluxe version featuring four bonus songs. The album is due June 24.
Robin Thicke follows up his hugely successful second album, “The Evolution of Robin Thicke,” with “Something Else” on July 1.
Rick Springfield releases a self-titled new studio album July 29.
