The Maier Museum of Art will hold its fifth annual two-part celebration of art in the spirit of Valentine’s Day on Feb. 8 and Feb. 10.
In years past, the program has been called “Love at the Maier” and has centered on the connection between love and art. This year’s program, “Love for the Maier,” has a new name and a new aim. It will feature art from students and community members reflecting their feelings toward the Maier Museum.
The Feb. 8 exhibition will serve, in part, as outlet for expression following the college’s controversial decision to sell four paintings in the Maier collection.
“With everything that has happened this year, the students felt like they needed a way to express themselves,” said Erin Dunn, co-president of FRAME, the student docent group that is sponsoring the event.
The evening will showcase visual art, poetry, dance and music, complemented with hors d’oeuvres and wine from the cash bar.
The second part of the program on Feb. 10, “Seeing Red,” is a hands-on workshop for children ages 5 to 12 about using the color red expressively in art. The event will also include a treasure hunt to find red surprises in paintings and artistic Valentine-making.
