Looking for a local ‘idol’
By Casey Gillis on Jun. 14, 2007
A local management company is looking for the next Lynchburg Idol.
DBP Management and Youth Interaction Performing Arts Academy will hold a singing competition, much in the vein of “American Idol,” for area youth.
Auditions for “Grab the Mic” will be held at 6 p.m. June 14 at Dunbar Middle School.
Entrants must come prepared to sing something a capella, and organizers will choose 10 finalists who will then perform in a competition next month.
First prize is $300, 10 hours of studio time and a development deal with DBP. Second prize is $150 and third is $100.
DBP will also hold a songwriting contest for a song about the Virginia Tech tragedy.
The songs don’t have to be submitted at the auditions, but there will be a meeting for anyone who is interested. Songs will be submitted over the next month, a winner will be chosen, and the top 10 singing finalists will perform the winning tune as a group at the July event.

Hello. My name is Maggie Maddox. I just heard a rumor about this competition. So I thought I’d check it out to see if it was for real. I feel so bad that I missed the auditions. Is there any possible way that I could still audition? I can ensure you that you will not regret giving me the opportunity if you do. Please let me know.
