Inking Halloween

Over the past 15 years, Caspian Tattoo owner Dave Casper says he’s seen many talented tattoo artists hone their skills here and move away.
To bring some of those people back, he’s organized the Hill City Halloween Tattoo Ball and Convention.
“We wanted to get together with old friends and bring some of these artists back to Lynchburg,” he says.
The events begin at 7 p.m. Friday night with an open house at Caspian’s Wards Road location, which Casper says they recently expanded.
“We’ve got six artists and three or four piercers (at Caspian),” he says. “It’s very seldom that all of us are in the shop at one time. This will give our clients a chance to come and hang out.”
Things continue Saturday with Lynchburg’s first tattoo convention, which lasts from noon to 10 p.m., followed by a Halloween costume ball from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Both are at the Ramada Inn on Odd Fellows Road.
“We figured while we’re doing it, why not have a Halloween party?” Casper says.
The convention will feature 15 to 20 artists from Lynchburg, as well as from North Carolina, West Virginia and Ohio; jewelry vendors; a display by American Legend Custom Cycles; and a tattoo contest, scheduled for 6 p.m.
DJ Matti Folks and DJ EE will spin tunes at the costume party, which will also feature a special performance by indie rockers Steal the Prize.
“We’ll see how it goes, and if it goes well, yeah, we’ll probably do it again next year,” Casper says. “It’s just something completely different from what you normally get around here.”
