Hey there! My name is Cody Gray. I am the afternoon host on a radio station here in town called The Planet. We’re a rock station that features one of the biggest music libraries in Virginia. Literally thousands of great rock songs! You can check us out here in Lynchburg at 97.9 FM and if you’re ever in Roanoke, you can pick us up on 101.5 FM. I’ll tell you a little bit more about the radio station and some cool things we have coming up this week in a little bit.
This is my first time blogging, other than stupid stuff on Myspace. So when The Burg asked me to start a blog here on the Web site, I thought, “Geez! I know how to talk to people on the radio, but I’m not sure if I’m the writing kind!” So I guess we’ll find out together how well this works out!
Basically what I’ll be blogging about are things happening in the entertainment world, both around town and stories about the big acts too! I’ll talk about things happening in and around Lynchburg including what’s going on with our radio station, The Planet. Plus, I’ll share some thoughts from a “twenty something’s” perspective about life here in Lynchburg. The good and the bad! I’m really looking forward to interacting with you and getting your response to the blog and answering any questions that you may have.
So it’s time for Halloween. I’ve never been one who is real big about about dressing up in costume and all that stuff. But the candy rocks! Plus, there are usually some pretty good times to be had and some cool things to see when you go out on the town on Halloween night. Of course, lots of the clubs and bars will do their routine with the costume contests and maybe some drink specials. All that is fun, but it has gotten kind of old to me. So I’m doing something different this year! I will be heading out on Wednesday night to Forever Ink Tattoos on Timberlake Road (just past the Saturn dealership) for a big Halloween party with my radio station, The Planet. I’ll be doing a live broadcast from 9PM-12AM, with food, drinks and tons of prizes! Of course, to win some of the prizes, you need a killer costume! We’ll be giving away 2 free tattoos to the person with the best costume, so make it scary, funny or just plain strange! You definitely want to stand out! If we think your costume is the best, you’ll get hooked up with 2 free tattoos from Forever Ink Tattoos, plus we have a ton of prizes for those costumes that were good, just maybe not the best! It’ll be a lot of fun, so come hang out! Be looking for me, I’ll be the guy dressed up as the Radio DJ!
Our other event this week will be Friday night, celebrating The Planet’s one year anniversary! That’s right, we’re a year old and we’re going to throw down at the new Mix One Six Club in Downtown Roanoke on Friday evening from 5-7PM. So take off early or do whatever you have to, to party with us! The club is providing tons of food, your favorite drinks will be available and we’ll even have a Planet cake for you to munch on. Maybe you’re going to see the Blue Man Group that same night in Roanoke. If so, come party with us before the show!
