Help friend find own style

By Casey Gillis on Aug. 17, 2007

Dear Emily: I pride myself at being original when it comes to fashion and love going to off-the-wall stores to find crazy, unique items. My friend “Cynthia” however, likes to follow the crowd. The thing is, lately she is just following me! I’m getting agitated with her always wanting to borrow my clothes and go shopping with me and asking me for fashion advice.
— Cramping My Style

Dear Cramping My Style: You should be flattered that your friend turns to you for advice in a matter you obviously care a lot about, and you should also be a good friend and help her out.
That said, you don’t have to let her be your clone. Don’t lend her your clothes, but help her go through her own wardrobe and help spice it up a little.
You can also help her fine tune her shopping skills without necessarily revealing your favorite, hidden places.
Point is, you can help Cynthia stand on her own so she won’t have to be a follower. Use your “talent” for good and help your friend out, and that should help you out in the long run as well.
