Changes are coming to Riverviews Artspace as a result of a $45,000 Easley Foundation grant.
Riverviews plans to develop a screening/performance room, install movable walls and improve the facility’s sound system with the grant money.
“All these things will just make the space more flexible,” said Mary Ann Racin, Riverviews executive director. “With a small staff, having more flexible high- tech things in the room just makes things easier for us.”
Because the space is so large, improving the sound system will help tremendously, Racin said. Movable walls will also help with the installation of different exhibits.
In order to receive the foundation’s grant, Riverviews had to raise $25,000 by June. Since February the downtown art space has been working to raise those funds.
“We basically sent letters out to the public telling them about the grant and asking for support,” she said, adding the fundraising was completed a month early.
“We’re a relatively new organization and to raise that money in such short amount of time is an incredible show of confidence,” she said.
Work on the site begins next month. Racin said she hopes to have the screening room done in time for the Riverviews film festival in November.
