Express feelings about birthday
By Jon Busdeker on May. 31, 2007
Dear Emily: Yesterday was my birthday and I had no plans. Not only that, but I have no family or friends who cared or remembered that it was my birthday. This is really depressing, and makes me feel like a lonely loser. Should I tell my family and so-called friends that they missed my birthday, or let it go?
— Birthday Blues
Dear Birthday Blues: First, you are not a lonely loser; getting older is not on everyone’s list of favorite things to remember, so perhaps your friends and family are the type of people who don’t think much of birthdays.
Therefore, tell them how you feel. If they don’t know what you are thinking, they won’t change their behavior.
Second, don’t sit around and wait for others to make you happy. Throw a party in your honor. Ask them all out for a night of fun. Don’t just sit back and feel sorry for yourself — celebrate!
