Encourage new activities
By Jon Busdeker on Jun. 14, 2007
Dear Emily: My friends and I always hang out on the weekends and usually go to the movies or go to the mall just to hang out. The thing is, I’m tired of doing the same old thing every time, but no one ever wants to try something different. How do I convince my friends that there is more to do than what we always do?

Dear Bored and Bothered: You could hold out and refuse to do the normal activities until some of your friends try something else. Maybe when they see how serious you are they will be more willing to give in.
Or suggest a compromise. For example, if they insist on going to the mall, why not ask them to at least do something different ahead of time, like go bowling, hiking, or whatever you’re into.
Another option is to find some new friends who have similar interests. This doesn’t mean you have to get rid of the old, just expand your social circle.
