From staff reports
The Ellington is holding its first annual Benefit Bash April 19, featuring Deanie Blues Band and The House Band, a soul and R&B outfit.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 8.
The Ellington Fellowship Playhouse is a non-profit music venue that hosts local talent, along with regional and national acts. They are open to all genres, but specialize in blues and jazz.
Glenn Marshall, a board member for 16 years, said the fundraiser is “just so we can keep those doors open and provide this entertainment in Lynchburg.”
The money raised will go toward upgrading the 16-year-old sound and lights systems and funding MusicBridge, an outreach program bringing music to inner-city children.
A live auction and food will round out the night. Local restaurants will serve samples and concertgoers will vote on their favorites among Benjamin’s Restaurant,
Bull Branch/Dish, Cook’s Alley, Depot Grille, Machu Picchu and Meriwether’s Market Restaurant.
Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance at http://www.theellington.org or at The Ellington, 421 Rivermont Ave. For more information, call (434) 845-2162.
