Don’t compare self to other moms
By Jon Busdeker on Jun. 07, 2007
Dear Emily: Am I a bad mom? I work part time while my toddler is in daycare, and when I pick him up after my job, I am usually too tired to do too much. My girlfriends seem to always find time to bake cookies and play games with their kids, while I usually look for something educational on television to occupy my son. I just don’t see how other moms have the energy to do so much.

Dear Feeling Guilty: Moms come in all shapes and sizes, so don’t beat yourself up if you are not just like your friends. You are probably not a bad mom, just a busy one, like so many others out there.
That said, you may feel better about your parenting skills if you found a better way to manage your time and spend it with your son.
You don’t have to spend two hours playing games or three in the kitchen making cookies, but if you could cut back on his TV time by just 20 minutes and perhaps spend that time together reading, you’ll be doing a lot of good for him.
Try to create some quality time with him, no matter how little that time may be.
