Don’t be offended by blind date

By Jon Busdeker on Jul. 26, 2007

Dear Emily: I have been seeing this girl “Lisa” for a couple of weeks and went out on about three dates. When I asked her if she wanted to see a movie and go to dinner next weekend, she said she had plans. Just making conversation, I asked who with. Then she told me she was going on a blind date that she promised a co-worker of hers she would go on weeks ago. Is it weird that she didn’t tell me about it? And if she thought this thing between us could be serious, wouldn’t she try to get out of a date with another guy?
— Baffled by Blind Date

Dear Baffled by Blind Date: Don’t read too much into Lisa leaving you in the dark about the blind date. Perhaps she didn’t tell you because she doesn’t want you to get the wrong idea and think this date is anything more than an obligation.
Trust her when she says she made the commitment weeks ago, and don’t hold it against her for keeping her word. The two of you haven’t been seeing each other long, so give it a few more dates before you start asking about exclusivity.

Have a question on love, life, or etiquette? Don't be shy - Ask Emily by e-mailing her at AskEmilyAdvice@gmail.com or writing in care of The Burg, P.O. Box 10129, Lynchburg, VA 24506.
