Concert series continues with Grand Funk, Blake Shelton

Two more well known acts will hit the stage for the Mariner’s Landing Summer Concert Series this weekend.
Seventies rockers Grand Funk Railroad are scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. Friday with special guest Gasoline Alley, and country crooner Blake Shelton follows at 7 p.m. Saturday with opening act Cimmaron, a Southern rock and roll band.
Often called “The American Band” because of their hit song of the same name, Grand Funk Railroad got together in 1969 and quickly hit a nerve with the public, selling more than 25 million records. In 1970, they were awarded four gold albums and, a year later, broke the attendance record set by The Beatles at Shea Stadium.
The band broke up in 1976 and reunited briefly in the late 1990s. In 2000, original members Don Brewer and Mel Schacher joined up with singer Max Carl, former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick and keyboardist Timothy Cashion, and they’ve been touring steadily ever since.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the gate.
Blake Shelton first hit the country music scene in 2001 with his debut single, “Austin,” which spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It appeared on his self-titled first album, which went gold and produced two more Top 20 hits.
His second and third albums - “The Dreamer” in 2003 and “Blake Shelton’s Barn & Grill” in 2004 - also went gold. His fourth album, “Pure BS,” was re-issued this year with a cover of Michael Buble’s hit song, “Home,” which gave Shelton yet another number one hit.
Gates open at 6 p.m., and tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate.
