Charlottesville artist shows work at Bower Center

An art exhibit titled “personal aeffects” by Charlottesville artist Kelsey Mosley opens with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Bower Center in Bedford.
Mosley, daughter of Bill and Elizabeth Berry-Mosley of Bedford, will welcome the opportunity to discuss her exhibit during the wine and cheese reception.
During her junior year at the University of Virginia, Mosley had the opportunity to study painting and art history in Florence, Italy; she visited Munich, Germany, as well as Dachau, which was a powerful experience and gave birth to the idea for an exhibit concerning the Holocaust.
Mosley was awarded a fifth year Aunspaugh Fellowship in Studio Art at UVa and this served as the opportunity to combine her passion for art, set design, and theater. She took the date of May 4, 1945, and the Holocaust experience to create an interactive work of art.
According to the artist in a news release, “The boxes in my exhibit give opportunity for dialogue and for remembrance of those 103 people who were killed, transported, liberated or lost on May 4, 1945 — five days after the camp was liberated. These are people are so rarely remembered in discussions of the Holocaust. They are the victims who perished from the aftereffects of war.”
The exhibit is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday through Aug. 1.
