REVIEWER RATING: 3.5 out of 5
Ratatat is a duo from New York City with a specific focus on electronic music. The group consists of guitarist Mike Stroud and synthesist Evan Mast. Previous releases have been categorized as electronic, alternative, and hip hop. Ratatat has toured with the likes of Björk, Daft Punk, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, CSS, The Faint and The Killers. Their eponymous debut was entirely instrumental.
“LP3” is the title of Ratatat’s latest album, which is an appropriate title considering it is the duo’s third studio album. “LP3” was recorded in several weeks, which is different from the approach they took with the last two. “Shiller” is the first single and reveals a Ratatat experimenting with new synthesizer sounds, different percussive arrangements and odd samples. That experimentation spans the rest of the record as well.
There are 13 tracks of new moods and textures for Ratatat fans. “Falcon Jab,” “Mirando,” “Bruleé” and “Black Heroes” are some of the group’s most ambitious songs. They have really created a niche for themselves. For more information check out ww.ratatatmusic.com.
