ARTIST: The Raconteurs
LABEL: Warner Bros
REVIEWER RATING: 4.5 out of 5
The Raconteurs are a rock group comprised of Jack White (of White Stripes fame), Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler (the latter two being from The Greenhornes). Despite the musical success every member has had outside of The Raconteurs the group claims that they are not a rock ‘supergroup’ as many critics have stated.
White and friends can claim that they are not a supergroup all they wish, but the music says otherwise. The Raconteurs are one of the last few full-on rock acts that know what they’re doing. No promotion was done for the group’s latest effort, entitled “Consolers Of the Lonely,” and the only mention of it in the press was done a week before its release. It still managed to reach the top ten in both the U.S. and the UK. The Raconteurs’ strength comes from their collaboration they truly play with one another and off of one another; “Consolers Of The Lonely” gives the impression that a great time was had by all in the studio.
The first single released was “Salute Your Solution,” but the best cuts are “You Don’t Understand Me,” “Old Enough,” and “Many Shades Of Black.” Every variety of the classic rock sound is represented on this record. The Raconteurs know how to rock; hopefully this is not the last time the public hears from them because this type of rock has been fairly devoid of any real substance lately.
