Bring on the Payne
By Casey Gillis on Feb. 14, 2008
From staff reports
Perry Payne has appeared in “Keith Thompson’s Kooky Tunes” and as Danny Kaye’s power diva wife, Sylvia Fine, off-Broadway and in the Washington, D.C., area in “Danny and Sylvia: A Musical Love Story.”
Her holiday novelty single, “Santa Claus Won’t Get Lit Up (At the Trailer Park Gate This Year),” has been featured in Billboard Magazine as a top 10 best holiday song for the fifth straight year.
Those are a few of the things the New York City-based singer, actress, writer, composer and producer has done. And she’ll be bringing her show, “An Evening of Payne,” to Lynchburg Feb. 23 when the area’s rotary clubs celebrate 103 years of service.
The bash for the area’s clubs - two in Lynchburg and others in Amherst, Altavista, Bedford, Forest and Smith Mountain Lake - is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Oakwood Country Club. The event is open to the public. (See box below for details.)
Rotary was able to score Payne’s appearance because she is a Lynchburg native, the daughter of Rotary member Dan and Viv Payne.
