Former NPR reporter subject for two events
John Burnett will share some “Pages from an NPR Reporter’s Notebook” during a talk March 27 at Lynchburg College.
The lecture, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., brings the correspondent and author to the college’s Memorial Ballroom in the Hall Campus Center.
Earlier in the day, he’ll read from his book, “Uncivilized Beasts & Shameless Hellions: Travels with an NPR Correspondent,” at 2:30 p.m. in the college’s Daura Gallery.
On March 26, he will be a guest at a public reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Riverviews Artspace.
Little Town Players hold open auditions
Director Karen C. Hopkins will hold open auditions for the Little Town Players production of the comedy, “Dearly Departed,” at 7 p.m. April 6 and 7, in the Elks National Home Theatre. Roles are available for nine females and seven males in their 20s to 60s. The show will run late May through early June. Amherst parks/rec to offer oil class
Amherst County Recreation and Parks Department will offer an oil painting class from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 8, at Coolwell Community Center; or April 26, at the former Amherst Baptist Church building on Second Street. Application deadline set for VCA grant
The Virginia Commission for the Arts has announced a 5 p.m. April 1, application deadline for the Commission’s 2008-09 Local Government Challenge Grants and 2009-10 Performing Artist Tour Directory.
Local Government Challenge Grants are intended to encourage local governments to support the arts. The Commission will match up to $5,000, tax monies given by independent town, city and county governments, to arts ogrganizations and jurisdictions.
