Amazement Square to showcase authors
Amazement Square has named 2008 the Year of Authors. Throughout the year all programming will be inspired by the work of the author of the month.
The Year of Authors is designed to promote a love of literature through interactive, hands-on activities. Programs will place a strong emphasis on family literacy, and provide parents and teachers with the tools to promote literacy at home and at school.
An exhibit in the summer will give visitors the opportunity to write, design, illustrate, print and take home their own book.
The following authors will be highlighted throughout the year: Jan Brett (January); African-American Authors (February); Dr. Seuss (March); Eric Carle (April); Margaret Wise Brown (May); Maurice Sendak (June); Jon Sciezka and Lane Smith (July); Shel Siverstein (August); It’s Hip to Read at the Square! (September); Candice Ransom (October); Robert Munsch (November); and Chris Van Allsburg (December).
