Showcase opens Sunday
The Lynchburg Art Club’s annual summer Artist Showcase opens with a reception from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 1011 Rivermont Ave. and features the work of club members.
The show is a bit different this year, said Mary Ann Battaglia, one of the show’s co-chairmen.
If you buy a work of art at most shows, you have to wait until the show closes to get it. In this case, that would mean waiting a month until the showcase ends Aug. 17.
But at the Artist Showcase, “you buy it, and you can take it home,” she said.
As a result, the art on exhibit will change as the show goes on. It will also change around First Friday in August, and the show’s organizers have suggested that artists put up new work at that time.
Visitors may also enter a drawing - to be held Aug. 10 - to win a painting valued at up to $150 from the show.
The art club’s hours, which have changed, are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
