LSO presents blast from the past
The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra’s latest fundraiser is one big blast from the past.
“The Nostalgia Big Band Concert and Dance,” scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Academy of Fine Arts’ Warehouse Theatre, will feature popular tunes from the 1940s and 1950s, the heyday of big band music in the U.S.
Trumpeter Bill Carroll, a founding member of the orchestra and a popular bandleader, came up with the idea and will use his own band, as well as other area musicians and symphony players, as a core for the 15-piece big band.
Lynchburg musician Dee Roberts will make a special appearance at the piano, swapping keyboard duties with another Lynchburg area great, Lew Taylor.
Tickets to the three-hour event are $20 per person and are available by calling the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra at (434) 845-6604.
