Dinner theater is trip destination
The Amherst County Parks and Recreation Department will take a trip on Aug. 13, to Riverside Center Dinner Theater in Fredericksburg, to see “42nd Street.” The trip cost is $79. Reservations will be accepted beginning May 27. For more information, call (434) 946-9371.
Rustburg to hold outdoor concert
Rustburg’s first ROC’M Fest is scheduled for this Saturday.
Featuring performances by local bands Frail-T, Tooth & Nail, Spuknof and Sick-n-Tired, it will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. behind the American Legends Bike Shop on U.S. 29, just south of Foster Fuels.
Admission to the outdoor concert, an all-ages event, is $5. No alcohol is permitted.

Fiber Festival set at Sedalia Center
It’s the third annual Sedalia Spring Fiber Festival, and it’s all about fiber arts.
The event Saturday - scheduled 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sedalia Center - features arts and crafts, clothing and accessories made from mohair, wool, alpaca and angora, not to mention the tried-and-true like cotton. Many of the products are made by hand from yarn from the coats of the maker’s own animals.
Admission is $5 per person, children 10 and under free.

TGIF kicks off in Altavista Friday
Altavista’s TGIF kicks off this week from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Avoca museum, featuring the tunes of the Encore Party Band. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12.
It will also feature contestants in what was supposed to be an “Altavista Idol” contest.
Altavista Chamber of Commerce President Patty Eller says they put out the call for aspiring contestants earlier this year, but didn’t get enough participants to hold a full-out contest.
Five contestantswill take the stage Friday, and judges will choose first and second place winners. TGIF events are held once a month through August.
Brookville Middle School offers workshop
Brookville Middle School will offer the Act I Theater Workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 16 through 27, in the BMS auditorium.
The workshop will teach students about different aspects of theater performances such as auditions, acting, costumes, scenery, lights and sound. The workshop will conclude with a student performance of “Peter Pan.”
The workshop is intended for rising fifth, sixth and seventh graders. The cost is $150 for two weeks. Enrollment will be limited to 30 participants. Registration forms are available at http://www.campbell.k12.va.us/bms or by e-mailing Sandra House at .
