Poetry society schedules meeting
The Western Region of The Poetry Society of Virginia will hold its annual meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, in the Community Room of the Lynchburg Public Library. Guest poet and speaker Vivian Teter, of Virginia Wesleyan College, will give a class “Poetry of Protest: From Love Poetry to War Poetry.” An open mic reading will take place in the afternoon. Liberty plans bi-annual writer’s conference
Liberty University will host it’s 8th bi-annual writer’s conference on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in DeMoss Learning Center. The celebration of contemporary Christian writing and literature will feature keynote speaker, Jerry Jenkins, author of more than 170 books, including, with Tim LaHaye, the popular “Left Behind” series.
The conference will highlight a variety of other writers and professionals within the field. The opening reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

Little Town Players award volunteer
Little Town Players has awarded its Volunteer of the Year Award to Gail Pankey. Pankey serves as LTP’s treasurer and also performs many other duties including ushering, helping with sets, gathering set pieces and greeting patrons.
