Riverviews Artspace hosts open mic
This month’s Third Thursday at Riverviews Artspace will approach art, literature and performance with an open mic night called “Stammer.”
Performers can sign up for a five-minute time slot and share any kind of performance art. This event is free, with doors opening at 7 p.m. Wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

Amherst event series begins tonight
Amherst LIVE kicks off this Friday.
The event is scheduled to run from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the square in front of the Amherst County courthouse.
Dragonfly will provide live music. There will be children’s activities, arts and crafts vendors, food and beverages.
Admission is $4 per person for those ages 12 and older; admission for those 11 and younger will be $1. Ages 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Gretna Little Theatre holding auditions
Gretna Little Theatre is looking for more singers for its production of the musical “The Merry Widow.” Baritones and basses are especially needed. Altos and sopranos are also encouraged to participate. To arrange an audition call Brenda Velarde, (434) 335-5481, or Janina Shoemaker, (434) 228-1778.

Author to sign copies of work Saturday
Harold S. Goodman will be signing copies of his book, a collection of quotations called “A Life Well-Lived; A Gift of Presence” from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Givens Books.
Local musician Dallas Wesley will also perform.

Endstation Theatre plans annual fundraiser
Endstation Theatre will hold a Skills Auction fundraiser from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, at Amherst Farm and Vineyard, located on U.S. 29 just south of Va. 151. All proceeds will help pay production costs of the first Blue Ridge Theatre Festival.
Skills that will be auctioned off include rock climbing lessons, square dance, quilting and more. Admission is $5 per person and $12 per family. Live music will be provided by Fast. For more information, visit http://www.amherstauctionservices.com.

Academy of Fine Arts schedules art raffle
The Academy of Fine Arts Gallery will hold an art raffle fundraiser at 7:15 p.m. May 30, in the Warehouse Theatre. The evening will begin with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., catered by Avenue Foods and featuring the music of Deja Moo. Tickets are $100 per person and $130 per couple for one ticket or $200 per couple for two tickets, and each ticket buyer is guaranteed to take home a piece of art worth at least $100.
Because there are 101 pieces of art, only 101 tickets will be sold. Proceeds will go into the gallery’s visual arts programs. For more information, call (434) 846-TIXX.
