Art club holds cash-and-carry show

The seventh annual Summer Showcase sponsored by the Lynchburg Art Club is all about variety — and instant gratification.
The show begins Sunday with an opening reception from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the club on Rivermont Avenue and will run through Aug. 19. It includes paintings and drawings from about 20 club members.
Works range from cityscapes to portraits to landscapes to abstracts, and all are for sale. Moreover, each time a visitor stops by the show, he or she will be entered into a drawing toward any purchase.
“What makes this show different,” said show chairperson Gail Laurant in a news release, “is that it’s cash and carry — which means you can take the painting right off the wall after it is bought. Every time a painting is sold, it will be replaced on the wall by another from the same artist. That keeps the show fresh. Also, at the end of the first three weeks, all the paintings then on display will be replaced with new ones. So this is like several shows in one.”
Gallery hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
A watercolor class will also be offered with instructor Solly Blank. The class will be four weeks long from 9:30 a.m. to noon starting July 12. To register call 385-9742.
