An upscale Valentines

Looking for an upscale Valentine’s evening? The Friends of the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra have their Sixth Annual Valentine’s Gala coming up.
It’s scheduled for 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Boonsboro Country Club.
“The gala has become the premier romantic ‘dress-up’ event of the season,” FLSO President Rick Edwards says in a news release. Plus, the gala supports the symphony, for which the Friends have raised more than $145,000 during the past six years.
This being a benefit for a symphony, there will be music, of course.
The event will get under way with chamber music by the Lynchburg String Quartet. The quartet includes symphony Director and Conductor Bruce Habitzruther and his wife, Ellen.
Later, there will be dancing to BC’s Big Rhythm Sound, led by trumpeter Bill Carroll who has played with bands that range from Kenny Rogers to Cher, and from Debbie Reynolds to Isaac Hayes. (Plus, Carroll is a charter LSO member and was the first president of the LSO board.)
The menu for the four-course dinner includes petite filet mignon and grilled jumbo shrimp. There also will be a silent auction, with items that include a one-of-a-kind Icon evening bag, and a raffle of a piece of jewelry.
Tickets are $125 per person, with a Feb. 13 deadline.
