A fabulous finish: Burg Treasure Hunt results

By Susan Pugh on Sep. 10, 2008

Tarsha Joyner’s response upon hearing that she is the winner of the fifth annual Burg Treasure Hunt?

“Fabulous!”

But that’s not all she had to say. Here’s a note from her entry:

“This was incredibly fun. My daughter (20-year-old Kristen Gardner) and I went out one day at lunch and found all but three things. Then my hubby (Roger Joyner) and I took a stroll one lazy afternoon and found the others. You should do these more often!”

Joyner works in support at Benchmark Systems, a downtown software company, so she was in her element. She’s also a shutterbug, a member of a photography group at the Academy of Fine Arts, and says she takes photos of downtown buildings for fun and posts them to her Flickr page.

The Wilmington, N.C., area native, who married a Burg guy, says people who dis Lynchburg are off base. The downtown area’s buildings range in style from Neo Classical to Art Deco, and are rich in architectural detail that makes them interesting and (unless you fancy big box development) beautiful. She’s got a group of folks coming into town for business with Benchmark and she plans to take them on a sightseeing tour.

So for her treasure-hunting efforts, Joyner gets a $50 gift certificate to Kroger and bragging rights. And Joyner was fine with winning: “I’m just stoked.”

Thanks to everyone who entered this year’s hunt.
