2008 has started with a bang!

By Cody Gray on Jan. 23, 2008

Well Happy New Year!  Yeah, it might be a late wish, but so far, I love 2008!  The Planet has had some great things to start off the year.  On January 2nd, we added a new voice to our station.  Well, it’s not really a new voice.  It’s probably the one person (besides me, I’m sure) that you think of when it comes to rock DJ’s in Roanoke and Lynchburg.  Of course that would be rock radio veteran Heidi!  Heidi had worked a long time for our competition, for over a decade actually.  You know the station I’m talking about, the one that plays the same songs day after day after day.  Anyways, Heidi was ready for a change and I actually came to find out that she had been a “closet Planet listener” for a while when she was still with the other guys!  She’s a great talent and knows her rock, so check out Heidi from 10AM-2PM every weekday on The Planet, 101.5 & 97.9.

On a more personal note, life has been good to me too so far this year!  I bought a Playstation 3 right after Christmas, something I had been wanting for a long time.  That’s why I asked for those gift cards this year!  And what would having a Playstation 3 be without having the hottest game on the market to go with it?  That’s right, just weeks ago I bought the extremely popular game Rockband!  It’s developed by the same people who do Guitar Hero.  The difference with Rockband though is that it’s a multi-player game!  It comes with a guitar, an awesome drum kit and a microphone too!  So you can have someone on both instruments and a friend wailing out the words of the song into the microphone!  You can play by yourself too, which I’ve been doing pretty much every night, and you can also play online with other “rockers”.  The game is a little pricy, but for the endless hours of entertainment it provides, it is well worth it.  Plus the song list is awesome, and you can even download new songs each week.  So if you have a PS3 or Xbox 360, then what are you waiting for?  Go get Rockband!  And no, I haven’t been paid to tell you that.  It’s just that good!  Just be prepared to get dirty looks from your non-gaming wife or girlfriend.  Trust me on that one!

Other than that, be sure you’re checking out The Planet over the next few weeks.  We have cool stuff to give away, including free ski rentals and lift tickets to Winterplace Ski Resort, tickets to Monster Jam coming to Roanoke on February 8th & 9th, CD’s, DVD’s, T-shirt’s and much more.  Plus, we are working on some cool new stuff for you this year as well.  I think 2008 is going to be great and I hope in some way, we can share the fun together either through the radio, The Burg or around town!

Be sure to check out my blog next week.  I developed an allergy that almost no one on the face of the earth could come to grips with.  I was getting hives constantly, so I went and did an allergy test and found the culprit of my problems.  It’s something I couldn’t believe.  I’ll tell you more about that next week!  Until then, take care!

Dude, I have nothing against PS3, but I have been wanting a Wii. It’s nice to see a return of old school games that don’t take themselves too seriously...and waving the remote around is just plain fun. But that Rock Band game does sound fun.
